PostHeaderIcon What Not To Wear To The Office

It is always difficult to find the fine line between looking smart, looking at your best and ending up looking like someone who has just dressed that little bit inappropriately. In days long gone, it used to be easy to know what to wear to the office, but now it is so much harder to know what looks right and what doesn’t or even what is appropriate.

But here are some style tips to keep you looking smart and efficient, but not too old fashioned!

First of all dress according to the style of the office. If everyone else wears jeans and loose fitting shirts with no tie, then this is appropriate. But similarly if everyone else wears a suit then you will fit in better if you wear a suit.

Fashion is fine, after a style. If you want to look like a Goth or Punk outside of work, then great, but try to keep things toned down when at work, others may find it a bit too much if you wear full Goth regalia.

You may have to wear a uniform, in which case: wear it, do not try to customise it too much. You aren’t at school now, so this isn’t about expressing your individuality.

Women should refrain from dressing too provocatively. If you look like you are out clubbing, you may not be taken seriously.

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum and you shouldn’t wear anything that could possibly cause offence to other people in the office, particularly if some of them are religious or just very old fashioned.

Whilst a dress code for the office may seem restrictive, it actually enables you to fully express your personality when you leave the office. So you can leave the specs behind and suddenly become the vamp on the town!
