Shall I Work Data Entry Jobs?
People very widely as to whether or not they would want to work at home. Many have tried it and never went back, and others couldn’t stand it or couldn’t be productive and went back to the “office” way of doing things. It really depends on what kind of a person you are and whether things like data entry jobs are for you.
Some people are self motivated, able to concentrate on the task at hand (whether it be eating a burger or doing data entry jobs) despite very accessible distractions, and are disciplined enough to make a regular schedule that allows them to be very productive while not allowing themselves to be imprisoned–never able to escape their job which is always right there. Others need a change of scenery, need extra motivation slash accountability that working with coworkers brings, feel isolated, or just don’t plain enjoy their house enough to be at home all the time. This is more of an old-fashioned–off to the factory–mentality.
How hard is it for you to do the normal things of life like go to the bank, doctor, etc.? If you are like most it is next to impossible because there are only so many personal days and the typical 40 hour week is inflexible and unyielding. You see there are too many amazing benefits that come with data entry jobs that allow you to work from home and flexibility is the most valuable one of them all. So first major benefit, you get to stay healthy and on top of your money.
Next benefit of this amazing flexibility is that you can take breaks when you
want to. When I say breaks I mean breaks as in vacations which are very necessary to your health as well. Think of it this way–working from outer space is almost the same as working from Europe (or data entry jobs, you choose!). Last major benefit is dress code, or lack thereof. Don’t get me wrong if you would rather work in a stiff white shirt and tie than luxurious soft sweat pants than you can!
Unfortunately only the first and not the second group of data entry jobs are able to enjoy the amazing and unique benefits of working at home that are there to take advantage of. So stop your boring job in the cubicle and get on board with the rest of us internet jockeys and work as you will. Fortunately, as this world becomes more linked globally through the wonders of technology, this second group of people (those who cannot work from home) is becoming the minority. You will wonder why you ever did it any different.

Five Ways To Impress the Boss
Are you keen to make a good impression on your boss so that you can stop working for a recruitment agency and perhaps land a secure, permanent job? Well help is at hand. Here are the top 5 ways that you can impress your boss and really help your career.
1. First of all always make sure that you don’t keep going to your boss with problems that someone else (yourself included) may be able to sort out. Giving him or her the space and time to be able to do their job, whilst you get on with yours will show that you can work on your own initiative and really help him or her to have confidence in you.
2. Always make sure that you are dependable. That isn’t just about making it into work on time, but is also about making sure that you deliver when you say that you will and that you don’t leave the office to go to a big night out, when all hands are needed to sort out a big problem in the office.
3. Take responsibility for your mistakes. Don’t try to make excuses and don’t try to blame colleagues. If you have messed up then say so, complete with an apology. In that way you will be seen to be acting responsibly and as a member of the team.
4. If you accompany your manager to meetings, then always be prepared. If there are minutes then bring them with you, if there is an agenda, make sure that you have read it and that you are aware of what is going to be discussed.
5. Be flexible. If your boss needs someone to work late sometimes, or someone to just help out in another part of the office, then volunteer. The more flexible you are, then the more you will be appreciated and valued and your boss will definitely have a good impression of such a really adaptable employee.
What Not To Wear To The Office
It is always difficult to find the fine line between looking smart, looking at your best and ending up looking like someone who has just dressed that little bit inappropriately. In days long gone, it used to be easy to know what to wear to the office, but now it is so much harder to know what looks right and what doesn’t or even what is appropriate.
But here are some style tips to keep you looking smart and efficient, but not too old fashioned!
First of all dress according to the style of the office. If everyone else wears jeans and loose fitting shirts with no tie, then this is appropriate. But similarly if everyone else wears a suit then you will fit in better if you wear a suit.
Fashion is fine, after a style. If you want to look like a Goth or Punk outside of work, then great, but try to keep things toned down when at work, others may find it a bit too much if you wear full Goth regalia.
You may have to wear a uniform, in which case: wear it, do not try to customise it too much. You aren’t at school now, so this isn’t about expressing your individuality.
Women should refrain from dressing too provocatively. If you look like you are out clubbing, you may not be taken seriously.
Jewellery should be kept to a minimum and you shouldn’t wear anything that could possibly cause offence to other people in the office, particularly if some of them are religious or just very old fashioned.
Whilst a dress code for the office may seem restrictive, it actually enables you to fully express your personality when you leave the office. So you can leave the specs behind and suddenly become the vamp on the town!
Relax Its Just An Interview
Yes interviews can be scary processes, especially if you have to give a presentation or sit in front of an interviewing panel and be grilled. But there is one thing to bear in mind and that is that ultimately, this is only an interview. No one has died, no one is seriously ill, this may be important, but it is not about a life changing experience: it is simply about work.
So with that in mind, adopt a more relaxed attitude towards your interview. Do not get too worked up about it. You should prepare for an interview and have anticipated lots of questions and have a list of questions that you want to ask, but you should not panic.
Before you attend the interview, do some deep breathing to simply relax your body. Breathe in slowly, through your nose, hold it, then breathe out slowly again. This will help your body to relax and will minimise any ‘flight or fight’ stress response that you may have when you go into the interview.
Remember that some people on the interviewing panel may themselves be slightly nervous. They may be worried about finding the right candidate or not choosing someone who turns out to be a really poor employee. So think about what the process is like for them as well. If you do think about how others are feeling, then it stops you focussing so much on yourself.
When you are introduced to the interviewing panel, shake hands or nod to each person. Smile at them and say hello, establishing eye contact. This will help them to appear human and so minimise your nerves.
Then you should be relaxed, confident and able to start the interview experience which should now be not quite as threatening as you may have thought it would be and may even land you your ideal job!
